The compound is formed from the composition of two different element namely sodium and chlorine. The atoms of this two distinct elements are bonded ionically to form a chemical compound known as sodium chloride. The pure substance formed can only be separated by a chemical means.

Compounds have different properties from their elemental constituents and are rarely separated by physical means.
