What compounds break up into ions solution?

Acid and base  compounds break up into ions solution.

Acids are the compounds that breaks into hydrogen ions. Bases are those compounds that dissociate into hydroxide or OH - ions. When you put an ionic or electrovalent compound into water , then it breaks apart into two ions.If one of them is H+ ions, then the solution is known to be acidic.

A good  example of strong acid is hydrogen chloride which breaks into water and releases ions. If we take the example of bases than if one of the releasing ion is OH- in the solution than the solution is basic . A good example of this is sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
