The problem:
hurricane oatis, a category 5 storm, leaves you stranded for days on long island without electricity,
transportation, internet, and clean water. you turn on the faucet, and water comes out, but it's brown, murky,
and smells. you have only the following items available to you: a roll of first-aid gauze, a full roll of duct
tape, a box of gallon-size ziploc bags, a box of plastic bendy straws, a pair of ladies' pantyhose, a bucket
of clean sand, 2 empty 2-liter soda bottles, an empty dish soap bottle, and a pair of scissors.
(a) using a picture and/or 3-4 sentences, describe an apparatus you could assemble from the available
items to purify the hurricane water and how your proposed apparatus would work.
(b) if your solution is informed any research online or otherwise), include links and/or citations to any
sources you used and assess how reliable those sources are.
(c) what types of contaminants would your proposed apparatus remove and what types of
contaminants would remain after using your proposed apparatus?
