Your labmate acquires a spectrum of an aqueous solution containing the analyte with an empty reference compartment. you acquire a spectrum of the same solution using a matched quartz cuvette containing water in the reference compartment.
do you expect the maximum absorbance in your labmate’s spectrum to be greater than, equal to or less than the maximum absorbance in the spectrum which you acquired?
justify your answer using appropriate calculations. (you may assume both you and your labmate will use the same double beam uv spectrometer.)
