YES,matter is anything that has mass an occupies state exists has solid,liquid,gas. 
When solid is heated it breaks an loses energy, when u boil water, the energy from the fire or electrictric heats up the water molecules an makes them move from place to place(EVAPORATION) this shows they have energy,a gas has energy that is why perfume smell can DIFFUSE easilly everywhere in a split second because of it's energy.
