Explain the reaction of non-metals with oxygen

Non-metals react with oxygen in the air to produce non-metal oxides.

When non metals react with oxygen they form acidic oxides. They turn blue litmus paper to red. Examples are

carbon + oxygen → carbon dioxide

sulphur + oxygen → sulphur dioxide

These oxides dissolve in the water in the clouds to form acid rain.  Acid rain damages rocks and buildings, and harms wildlife.

chemical changes are accompanied by following changes:
