Setup: Administrators have received an urgent directive from the Superintendent. Immediate action is expected to show measurable improvement in these 4 areas: academic achievement
school safety and security
student behavior and attitudes
school appearance and cleanliness

The students (labor) have presented their six demands below. As they prepare to negotiate the annual ā€œstudent/administrationā€ contract, here is the list of demands the students will present:
Students should not be assigned homework over weekends and holiday breaks.
Teachers should be required to ā€œgrade on a curveā€ when grades on a particular test are low.
Every teacher should be required to give his/her students bonus point opportunities.
Students should be allowed to carry and use the backpack of their choice.
There should be no dress code. Students should be allowed to wear the clothing they want to wear.
The use of cell phones should be allowed at all times during the day, except while taking a test.

As a response the schoolā€™s administrative staff has announced its new policies:
Any student earning a D or F in an academic course, must attend Saturday remediation classes until he/she can show improvement to at least a C.
Any student with an unexcused tardy to class, will be given a demerit which will lead to a loss of privileges (such as participation in after school clubs and sports) if a predetermined number of demerits are accumulated.
Students will be not be allowed to leave class during the first or last 15 minutes of class for any reason.
Backpacks are forbidden unless they are ā€œsee-throughā€ plastic.
Weekly unannounced locker checks will be made throughout the school building.
Any student caught fighting before, during or after school on school grounds will serve an eight hour Saturday detention and face suspension. Parents will be notified.
No student may wear a hat to school, regardless of grade.
All students must wear dark dress pants or skirts with white shirts daily. No shorts will be allowed.
Any student using abusive language (cursing, threatening or racist) will serve an eight hour Saturday detention and face possible suspension. Parents will be notified.
Any student who is disrespectful to any substitute, teacher or other staff member will serve an eight hour Saturday detention and face possible suspension. Parents will be notified.
No food will be permitted outside the cafeteria anytime during the school day. This includes before and after school. Violators will receive demerit points.
Each student must serve as a custodial assistant before or after school for one week during the school year.

Assignment: You are a member of Management (Administration) and you have recently been provided with the directives from The Superintendent. As Management, decide on the top 6 priorities from your list of 12 ensuring that you can show improvement in the areas as required in response to the student demands. For each policy, there should be a counter to the student demand. Explain why you acting as Management, chose each policy and how it applies to the 4 areas needed to show improvement as well as the student demands. You should write this communication from the perspective of Administration (Management) to all parents & guardians stating their objectives and what were accomplished in the negotiations with the student body.
