Assignment Directions: In an essay of at least 500 words, create a scenario in which a business dispute takes place, then resolve it in two ways: (a)
first, through small-claims court and (b) second, through settlement. The results can differ in both cases.
Don't rush through your scenario. Provide details of the parties, the history of their relationship (if applicable), how the
dispute began and what it is over, and so on. Remember: details can be crucial when a judge makes his or her decision.
When deciding on which small-claims court the plaintiff will file a claim in, make sure you mention which state, the
maximum amount that you can request, and how the matter is resolved. Be sure to cite any Web sites referred to.
Assignment Guidelines:
Your response must include the following:
• Follow the instructions provided above.
• Show that you can perform the tasks requested, think critically, and analyze the information given.
• Reveal your understanding of the purpose of small-claims court and settlement.
• Indicate how you were able to resolve the issue.
• Proofread for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Use complete sentence structure and standard written English. Do not use texting abbreviations or other
shortcuts.
