How do equal employment opportunity laws protect job applicants?

I believe the answer is: It protects people from employment discrimination when it envolves unfair treatment bc of your race,color,religion,gender, national origin, age (40 or older), disabilitly, and genetic.

The laws were enacted around ten years after the racial segregation period.  During this time, even though minorities are allowed to use the same public infrastructure like the majority citizens did, many companies still show their discrimination  by choosing to not hire or promote minorities. This laws were government's effort to try to fix the situation.
