Josh is saving to compete in a bicycle race in the Caribbean next year. To afford this vacation, he must figure out a way to save each month. You recently met with Josh to determine his costs and are ready to create a budget that will save at least $400 per month. Use the information that you have learned to create a budget. Josh recently moved to Washington, D. C. and is excited to take in all that the city has to offer. His apartment is five miles from the metro, therefore, the cost is high. Living in his own apartment means he must pay $1020 for rent and $350 for utilities. Each weekday, he drives five miles to the metro and takes the train into town. His average costs for transportation include; car payment $300, insurance $100, parking $120, metro fees $140, and gas for his car is averaged $85.

He brings his lunch to work and frequently hangs out with friends when his day is over. Each month, he spends $500 on dinner and entertainment, as well as $370 on groceries. The past few months, his friends have been attending elite socials. To fit in, he purchases designer clothes for each occasion. Last month, he spent $350 on clothes.

Although his apartment building has a full gym in the basement, Josh enjoys working out at a local gym. He often runs into friends and he enjoys the motivation he receives from their conversations. The gym costs Josh $30 for membership fees and $5 for towel service. He also competes in amateur bicycle races every few months. Costs of fees and bicycle maintenance average $100 a month.

You will now prepare two budgets. The first budget will show what Josh is currently making, spending, and saving. The second budget will show at least four changes. Remember, to follow a budget, you must create something that allows the person the chance to do what they like, it just limits their spending. Do not create a budget that forces Josh to give up his happiness. After you have created the second budget, explain how at least four areas of the new budget will be affected.
