Wood Corp Inc. specializes in manufacturing wooden office furniture. The CEO and the director of human resources have just started preparing a detailed plan for the managerial positions which will be vacant in the near future. The prelude plan shows that a number of key managers will be taking their well-deserved retirement, and this will result in two major scenarios:  The manufacturing director Jad has joined the company 25 years ago as an administrative clerk. He gradually moved up through the positions and was eventually appointed as the manufacturing director. Over the years, his career path, performance and fair decisions have earned him considerable credibility. He believes that the manufacturing supervisor Tamara who received an extensive knowledge and training from him and became familiar with the tasks and responsibilities that he daily performs, is qualified enough to succeed him in this higher position. Accordingly, Jad recommends Tamara for the position.  The general controller Salim plans to retire within the next couple of months. He has a wide knowledge in finance and the CEO consults him for every strategic decision he has to make. Unfortunately, no one in-house is qualified enough to replace him. Notwithstanding, the director of human resources believes that no efforts have to be taken to fill the vacancy, because the company’s strong image in the market is continuously attracting qualified candidates who always seek to join the firm by applying for unadvertised positions and sending their resumes to the company’s email.
