The river near a town with a population of 150, 000 (note: not the town of Waterville above) has a very big flow rate to allow the town to build a new DWTP. The surface water quality is as follows: (1) average TSS of 10000 mg/L; (2) 35 mg/L of calcium bicarbonate and 20 mg/L of magnesium bicarbonate; and (3) during the spring runoff season, the river may be contaminated by low concentrations of synthetic organics (such as atrazine). Assuming you are hired by the town as an engineer to design a DWTP with an average flow in the design year being 50 MGD.

Requirements:
Do your design based on the design year only by (1) identifying the treatment train of the new DWTP that uses the river water as its supply; (2) identifying the locations where chemicals are added (but not their quantities); and (3) sizing your major reactors that are located before the disinfection process. For example, if you have rapid mixing tanks, flocculation tanks, and sand filters, you need to calculate their sizes, but don’t need to get into the design details (e. g., design of paddle wheels, sand filter underdrain system, clean sand head loss, backwash hydraulics, etc.). In addition, you don’t need to include the design of the pumping station, bar rack design, clear well design because they will be designed by the other engineers in your group.

You are working on a bid to build two city parks a year for the next three years. this project requires the purchase of $249,000 of equipment that will be depreciated using straight-line depreciation to a zero book value over the three-year project life. ignore bonus depreciation. the equipment can be sold at the end of the project for $115,000. you will also need $18.000 in net working capital for the duration of the project. the fixed costs will be $37000 a year and the variable costs will be $148,000 per park. your required rate of return is 14 percent and your tax rate is 21 percent. what is the minimal amount you should bid per park? (round your answer to the nearest $100) (a) $214,300 (b) $214,100 (c) $212,500 (d) $208,200 (e) $208,400

Variable rate cd’s = $90 treasury bills = $150 discount loans = $20 treasury notes = $100 fixed rate cds = $160 money market deposit accts. = $140 savings deposits = $90 fed funds borrowing = $40 variable rate mortgage loans $140 demand deposits = $40 primary reserves = $50 fixed rate loans = $210 fed funds lending = $50 equity capital = $120 a. develop a balance sheet from the above data. be sure to divide your balance sheet into rate-sensitive assets and liabilities as we did in class and in the examples. b. perform a standard gap analysis and a duration analysis using the above data if you have a 1.15% decrease in interest rates and an average duration of assets of 5.4 years and an average duration of liabilities of 3.8 years. c. indicate if this bank will remain solvent after the valuation changes. if so, indicate the new level of equity capital after the valuation changes. if not, indicate the amount of the shortage in equity capital.
