That 'something' could be  a break in, stolen information, etc. To prevent also means to "make sure something doesn't happen." It also means to try to stop. Detect means to discover something or someone. Security's job is also to detect stolen information, items, and people / persons.  To correct security violations that involve the transmission of information means to fix security violations and stolen information. Security needs to make sure that the "passing of information" which is what transmission means, does not happen.
