Echoic memory

Echoic memory refers to a specific type of sensory memory responsible for storing all the sound stimuli we are exposed to. It is a very brief sensory memory of some auditory stimuli. An example of usage of echoic memory in real life is when a person is listening to his friend’s story, but got distracted by his own thoughts and worries and did not concentrate on what his friend was saying. He was technically hearing the words his friend is saying, because he is capable of it physically, so the brain perceives sensory input. But since he is not concentrating on them actively to perceive the sense of the words, his brain treats them as another stimuli of the surroundings and judge it to be proceeded with echoic memory.
