Fingerprints are the patterns of the friction ridge skin present in the hand. These can be observed on surfaces of the objects when the hands comes in contact with surfaces. These are unique to every individual and remains unchanged throughout life. Thus can be a useful evidence for the purpose of identification of criminals.

Juan Vucetich (1858) was the Argentina Police officer who for the first time devised a system of identification of fingerprints and used them for the purpose of identification of criminals. He used this technique for the purpose of solving a murder case.
