Organic macromolecules called are insoluble in water, are often found in biological membranes and other waterproof coverings, and have the ability to store energy for extended periods of time

These organic molecules are lipids.

Lipids are a large group of naturally occurring organic compounds. These macromolecules contain carbon and hydrogen atoms. Lipids are not soluble in water because they are said to be non-polar and thus will only dissolve in nonpolar environments, e.g.  in chloroform.

The primary functions of lipids include energy storage, structural components of cell membranes and signaling.

Examples of lipids include fatty acids,  fats, oils, waxes, hormones, steroids and certain vitamins known as lipid soluble vitamins.

the rocks are classified by the geological process they are formed by. the three main groups of rocks are igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. minerals are not they are classified under the chemical classes they are in. these groups include silicates, sulfates and carbonates.
