An electrical current flows along the path of least resistance, it is called Ohm´s law . The flow of charges always occurs from a point with a greater potential to a point with a lower potential.

When we use a battery (8 volts) for example, the flow of charges are given from the positive terminal, where there is a potential of 8 volts, to the negative terminal, where the electrical potential is 0 volts. It means that the current will try to find the path that places the least resistance to move from one point to another.
