Light independent reactions takes place in the grana region of the plant chloroplast (an organelle present in leaves) necessary for photosynthesis. These are also known as Calvin cycle. These are named as light independent reactions because light required for photosynthesis is already captured in light dependent reactions of photosynthesis.
