During this process, the bivalents or pairs of chromosomes are arranged on the metaphase plate and become attached to the fully formed meotic spindle. The centrioles are on the cell's opposite poles. Each bivalent are coiled tightly and condensed. Spindle fibers from each pole of the cell are attached to each homologous chromosome.
