The earth, moon, and sun, all move In a synchronized motion together. The Earth revolves around the sun while rotating, as does the moon around earth. But what does this all really mean?

Revolution is the orbit of an object with less mass around an object with more. It is the cause of seasons on earth- Spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Rotation is the spinning of an object on its axis. Earth spins at a tilt of 23.5 degrees. This is why we have day and night.

Let's not forget about the moon! It's accountable for 2 things- the Lunar Cycle and Tides.

The lunar cycle is a series of phases visble in the Night sky. It's starts with a New Moon, then leading to waning crescent, 1st quarter, waning gibbous, full moon, waxing gibbous, 3rd quarter, waxing crescent, and finally ending with another new moon.

Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. There are 2 major types- Spring tides and Neap tides.

Spring tides are when gravitational pull is greatest towards the sides of the earth. They happen during full and new moon.

Neap tides are the opposite. Gravitational pull is greatest near the north and south poles. They are present during 1st and 3rd quarter moons.

The Earth, sun, and moon play a huge rule in how we perceive the night sky- and on our planet too!
