Make a geologic map that shows the location of the underground minerals in the model. In order to make a map, you need to know the different parts of a map.

A map should always have a title that describes what is on the map. Finish the title on your map.

Maps also have a Key or a Legend. Look at the words and symbols inside the Key on the Mineral Deposits Grid. Map symbols represent an object or landform. The Key on this map shows the symbol for each mineral on the map.

Maps also need a compass. Find the compass on your map. What do you think the compass is for?

Answer
A map compass identifies the directions of north, south, east, and west to help locate objects on the ground.

Make sure the North signs on your map and model point in the same direction.
