18. Some factors have density-independent effects on changes in population size. For example, freezing weather, tornadoes, floods and fires can drastically reduce population size, independent of initial population density. These types of density-independent effects are not included in the exponential or the logistic population growth models, so these models do not accurately predict changes in population size for a population that is strongly influenced by density-independent effects.
