A scientist testing the effects of chemical fertilizer on apple trees sprays part of an orchard (50 trees) with the fertilizer. Another part of the orchard (also 50 trees) does not receive the fertilizer. In the fall the number of apples harvested from each part of the orchard is counted. The part of the orchard with the chemical fertilizer averaged 62 apples per tree. The part of the orchard without the fertilizer averaged 45 apples per tree.

In order for this test to be valid (fair) both orchards must:

A. receive different amounts of fertilizer

B. have different species of apple trees

C. receive different amounts of water

D. have the same species of apple trees

The empty trna moves off and picks up another matching amino acid from the cytoplasm in the cell. the anticodon of the trna, with its attached amino acid, pairs to the codon of the mrna, which is attached to a ribosome. this sequence is repeated until the ribosome reaches a stop codon on the mrna, which signals the end of protein synthesis. the ribosome forms a peptide bond between the amino acids, and an amino acid chain begins to form. when a second trna with its specific amino acid pairs to the next codon in sequence, the attached amino acid breaks from the first trna and is bonded to the amino acid of the second trna.

One of the newest applications of cell technology is called cybrid embryos. this process involves replacing the nuclear material of an animal cell with human nuclear material. how might this process affect public policies about research by using stem cells? the same policies and concerns about the use of human embryonic stem cells would most likely apply. the embryos would most likely be treated like traditional animal embryos and regulated accordingly. the process of forming cybrid embryos would most likely be banned by government regulators. the embryos would be treated as regular cells because they are not fully human in origin.
