Didymosphenia geminata, didymo or rock snot, is an invasive algal diatom found in lakes, streams and rivers. This freshwater diatom produces thick algae mats along stream bottoms. The mats may be so thick that they can alter stream habitats and
make fishing difficult. Didyo can be spread easily from one water body to another. This microscopic algae, found in North
Carolina, now pose a threat to North Georgia streams and rivers. D. geminata occurs in locations with low phosphorus,
increased nitrogen, cooler water temperature (<10 C), neutral pH, low canopy cover, and moderate depth.
Didymo threatens the North Georgia trout populations. What is the best way Georgians can help prevent the spread of didymo?
A)
Avoid wading in the North Georgia waters to fish for trout.

Outlaw fishing in North Carolina.
