RESPOND THOUGHTFULLY TO THIS DISCUSSION POST The Question:

How would the use of bacteriocidal, bacteriostatic or bacteriolytic antimicrobial agents differ in their resulting cell counts (total and viable). How would the effects differ regarding the growth curve of the cells? Use examples to support your answer.

The Person's

Bacteriocidal kills the microbial cell. The total number stays the same and the viable cell count decreases over time. An example would be cephalosporins

Bacteriostatic stops the growth of other competing microbial species. The total and viable cell count have a phase where they both stay the same at the same rate. Example Clindamycin

Bacteriolytic lyse the bacteria which decreases the total and viable cell count. Example Penicillin
