Jennifer is a 30 year old pregnant mother who presented to her gynaecologist at 28 weeks gestation complaining of fever, chills headache and sore throat. She had recently gone to a school fair with her 2 year old son and consumed hot dogs, fried rice and coconut water. 4 weeks after her initial visit, she went into premature labour and delivered a baby girl. The child was closely monitored displaying fever, and irritability. A lumbar puncture was performed and the sample was sent to the Microbiology lab where Gram positive rods were seen
