5b. When a tick sucks in a blood meal that contains Lyme disease bacteria, at first these bacteria live in the tick’s gut where the bacteria get nutrition from the blood meal. When the tick begins its next blood meal, the Lyme disease bacteria move from the tick's gut to its salivary glands.
