the  types of mutations   include: missense  mutation   (illustration) this  type of mutation   is a change in one dna base pair that results in the substitution of one amino acid for another in the protein made by a gene.

*explain why mutations may or may not affect phenotype:
some  mutations  don't have any noticeable effect on the  phenotype  of an organism. this can happen in many situations: perhaps the  mutation  occurs in a stretch of dna with no function, or perhaps the  mutation  occurs in a protein-coding region, but ends up  not affecting  the amino acid sequence of the protein.


* identify internal and external factors that regulate cell division:  
internal and external factors regulate cell division.  external factors  include physical and chemical signals. growth  factors  are proteins that stimulate  cell division. – most mammal  cells  form a single layer in a culture dish and stop dividing once they touch other  cells.


*explain cancer in terms of the cell cycle:
cell cycle  in  cancer. the  cell cycle, the process by which  cells  progress and divide, lies at the heart of cancer. in normal  cells, the  cell cycle  is controlled by a complex series of signaling pathways by which a cell  grows, replicates its dna and divides.
