What role can fire play in the life cycle of some gymnosperms?

Explanation:

Fire can be considered as an important ecological factor in an ecosystem which is dominated with the gymnosperms like the coniferous trees. The coniferous trees are adapted to the forests fires for the dispersal of their seeds. These coniferous trees exhibit cones which bear seeds. The hard woody cones do not open on their own instead an ecological factor is required for the seed dispersal.

The cones are covered inside with resins which is melted by the fire and the cones are opened and the seeds spread out and germinate. This way the progeny coniferous trees grows. Hence, fire is an essential ecological factor for life cycle of the some gymnosperms.
