How it is possible to have thousands of different proteins when there are only 20 different amino acids.

Because it takes multiple acids to code for one protein . .  Say one protein requires two acids? That would mean there are 400 possible proteins. Say it takes three acids to code one protein? That would be 8000 possible proteins.
