1. Identify WHERE each process occurs in cells.
2. Identify what EACH process needs and makes.
3. Explain how photosynthesis AND cellular respiration are important to the carbon
cycle.

1. Photosynthesis occurs in the Chloroplast, which contain a chlorophyll whereas Cellular Respiration takes place in the double-membrane organelle called the mitochondrion.

2. PHOTOSYNTHESIS:

6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2.

The reactants, six carbon dioxide molecules and six water molecules, are converted by light energy captured by chlorophyll into a sugar molecule and six oxygen molecules, the products.

CELLULAR RESPIRATION :

C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O.

The equation for cellular respiration is the direct opposite of photosynthesis.

3. Cellular respiration and photosynthesis are important parts of the carbon cycle. The carbon cycle is the pathways through which carbon is recycled in the biosphere. While cellular respiration releases carbon dioxide into the environment, photosynthesis pulls carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
