When driving a car, the chemical energy in gasoline is transformed to heat (thermal energy) in the engine. Some of this thermal energy is then transformed to mechanical energy, which makes the car move. What happens to the rest of the thermal energy? It is destroyed by the engine.

It transfers to the environment.

It is transformed back into chemical energy.

It is changed to more energy for another time.
