I hate to say this of my own gender, but the accusation that women often make is that men are sexist. But that is not the critical problem. The real problem is that men for centuries have held the mantle of power.

He who controls the money, controls the economy and the right to impose that power over women.

Even in the United States, where Americans are rightly proud of the democratic constitution, women were not given the same rights as men until the 19th Amendment was passed in 1920. The original constitution only granted men the right to vote, to have peaceful assemblies, their choice of religion. Women were not considered until nearly 150 years later as being worthy of being called citizen with full citizen's rights. If you can find it, you ought to read Abigail Adams' letter to her husband on this subject of women's rights. She couldn't spell but she could certainly think.

So Canada, the United States and I think Great Britain finally got around to giving women full citizenship at about the same time.

You can't classify yourself as democratic unless every person, male and female has equal rights before the law and equal rights in the society they live in.

It is not MOST LIKELY a sign of democratization. It is the basis of a democratic society.
