Transcription factors are proteins involved in the process of transcription of DNA into RNA. Transcription factors bind to a region of DNA that initiates a gene transcription called a promoter region. An enzyme RNA polymerase binds to the complex of transcription factors on DNA. They work together to open DNA double helix and to start synthesis of messenger RNA (mRNA).
