These are a central carbon (C) atom, hydrogen(H) atom, an amino group (NH2) with one nitrogen atom and two hydrogen atoms, a carboxyl group (COOH) having one carbon atom, two oxygen atoms, and one hydrogen atom and an R-group or side chain. There are 22 different types of amino acids. They are different due to the different side chain or R-group. For example, if the side chain is H, the amino acid is Glycine and if side chain is CH3, the amino acid is Alanine
