It can be defined as methane gas trapped inside the cage like crystal lattice prepared by the water molecules. Methane is produced in the bottom of the ocean when the organic matter from dead plants and animals gets trapped between the layers of earth. These are decomposed and broken down by the microorganisms and heat present between the earth layers. Additionally, the fermentation of organic matter also takes place, which is carried out by methaneogen Archea to produce methane. The methane produced is a source of valuable natural gas.
