Some birds, like the Ptarmigan, change the color of their feathers at different times of the year. In the summer months, the Ptarmigan has brown feathers. In the winter months, the Ptarmigan has white feathers. This color change allows the Ptarmigan to blend into its surroundings, no matter the season. What causes this color change to occur?
