Why do non polar molecules diffuse more rapidly through membranes than polar molecules?

Cell membrane consists of lipid bilayers and proteins are inserted and present in the membrane. The carbohydrates are present in association with lipids and proteins.

The lipid bilayer creates the hydrophobic environment inside the cell membrane. The small and non polar charge molecules can easily diffuse through the membrane due to the hydrophobic environment of the cell membrane. These uncharged molecule passes down the concentration gradient through the hydrophobic environment as non polar molecules are also hydrophobic.
