What would happen to plants and animals if the sun shines continuously for a very long time?

The balance of temperature on our planet is due to the day and night cycle. If the sun shines continously for a very long, the side facing the sun would be scorched and burnt due to the constant heat from the sun. The side facing the opposite side of the sun will be frozen since that side won't get enough sunlight so, it won't get enough heat to stay warm.Neither plants nor animals would survive, they would die in just a several days.
