Water is a simple molecule composed of a single atom of oxygen bound to two separate atoms of hydrogen. Because of the oxygen atom 's greater electronegativity, the bonds are polar covalent (polar bonds). Because of the two lone pairs of electrons on the oxygen atom, the molecule adopts a twisted form.
