The cell cycle is the life cycle of a cell. From birth to reproduction, all cells undergo three
stages: interphase, mitosis and cytokinesis. Interphase accounts for about 80% of a cell's
life. During interphase, cells grow, replicate their DNA and grow some more in preparation
for mitosis. Mitosis is cell division. It is the process by which a single parent cell divides into
two identical daughter cells. Mitosis is the way living organisms grow and repair or replace
old and dead cells. The final stage of the cell cycle is cytokinesis. During mitosis, cytokinesis
has already began, stretching out the cell membrane of the parent cell. With all the
ingredients for two identical cells inside the parent cell, cytokinesis provides the final
separation. This is the point at which the membrane is pinched in until two identical
daughter cells separate from each other completely. These identical cells are now ready to
begin a cycle of their own.
Based on the passage, which of the following is true?
A
Cytokinesis and mitosis do not overlap.
B
Interphase can also be called cell division.
с
Mitosis is the longest stage in the cell cycle.
D
Daughter cells eventually become parent cells.
