Ketogenic diets are rich in fats and oils and carbohydrate intake is drastically reduced. You know that during cellular respiration, cells break down glucose and release electrons that flow to oxygen in the mitochondrion producing large quantities of ATP. Yet people following a ketogenic diet can produce sufficient quantities of ATP. Explain why a fat molecule actually produces more ATP than a glucose molecule.
