Amino acids are the building blocks or monomers of PROTEIN biomolecules. Amino acids are synthesized from the process of gene expression which involves transcription and translation. Transcription involves the synthesis of an mRNA sequence based on the order of the DNA sequence while translation involves the synthesis of an amino acid sequence based on the order of the RNA sequence.

The amino acid sequence consists of amino acids that are added in a sequential order which specifically codes for a particular protein. In the mRNA sequence that produces the amino acid sequence, a group of three nucleotides called CODON specifies one amino acid i.e. for one coding read, one amino acid is added to the growing amino acid sequence.

Hence, an amino acid sequence that reads: Pro-Val-Ser-Thr means it contains four amino acids namely: Proline for Pro, Valine for Val, Serine for Ser, and Threonine for Thr.
