Natural selection follows 4 main rules (below) according to Charles Darwin (founder of natural
selection theory)
1. Individuals in a population show variation
2. Genetic variations are inherited and passed through
generations
3. More offspring are produced than what resources can
support, thus leading to competition
4. Those individuals that survive have favorable traits
Explain, in your own words, how an organism changes using these 4 points.
1. Name any organism and a specific trait it has. (ex. Peppered moth, black/white color)
2. How does your organism show variation within its own populations for a specific trait.
3. How is your individual variation passed on?
4. How many offspring will your population produce?
5. What individuals will pass on their genetic differences and why?
