The neurons when are at rest still maintains the electric potential at -70 mv. This potential is due to the difference in the ions inside and outside of the neuron. The neurons contain a very high amount of potassium ions inside whereas the sodium outside.

But the potassium ions present inside the neuron continuously leaks from inside through the leak channels (high number compared to sodium channels) causing a slight electronegative charge in the neuron.  Thus, Potassium ions are correct.
