This is the reason why their walls are thick and elastic so that they could withstand this high blood pressure without being punctured. Arteries carry blood away from the heart towards various tissues. Arteries further distribute blood to various capillaries which have comparatively low blood pressure. Veins on the other hand are the type of blood vessels which carry blood from various tissues towards the heart. The blood pressure in the veins is lowest among all these blood vessels.
