The ribosome is attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The production of protein takes place within the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum and also gets modified there.  

With the assistance of a transport vesicle, the protein is further transported to the Golgi apparatus. The protein further gets modified within the Golgi and is carried back to the endoplasmic reticulum with the assistance of a transport vesicle, here it does all its cellular activities.
