A specific segment of DNA (gene) opens and synthesizes a strand of mRNA, through a process called transcription. The mRNA molecule suffers modifications in order to become mature mRNA, then leaves the nucleus through the nuclear pores and goes into the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum, this is where the mRNA attaches to a ribosome. In the ribosome, translation beings and the mRNA is used to synthesize a protein. The newly synthesized protein leaves the ER through a transport vesicle and then arrives at the cis-face of the Golgi Body for further processing. The modified protein then leaves through the trans-face of the Golgi Body in a transport vesicle. This protein will function until it ages and deteriorates, to then arrive at the lysosome to be dissolved and turned back into amino acids.
