Step one in the scientific method is defining the question that you want your experiment to answer and then creating a hypothesis. the next step is to figure out how you are going to answer the question, and that involves designing an experiment. so, your assignment for the first part of this activity is to create a hypothesis and design an experiment to test it. your experiment must meet the following requirements: have a connection to an issue or question in marine science include at least one step that involves taking and recording measurements be able to be completed by unit 8 you know the resources available to you best, so be sure to keep that in mind. there is plenty of information and documentation available online, so be sure to consider the many government websites that monitor issues related to marine science when designing your experiment. you will also do some research on how marine scientists are working on a similar issue to the one that you choose, so the final project will require an exploration of current activity in marine science. so, if you are looking at the impact of pollution in your area, you might research the efforts to remove pollution from the ocean. as you choose the topic for your experiment, make sure that you can draw a connection between it and the challenges that marine scientists face. you will submit a proposal that includes the following information: a paragraph outlining the scientific question you are going to explore your hypothesis a description of the experiment that you plan to conduct how you will use measurements in your experiment the connection between your experiment and contemporary issues in marine science
