The cerebral cortex is an area found in the outer part of the brain and the purpose of which is to divide this structure into two hemispheres, and into different specialized areas, through multiple folds and convolutions.

It is divided into sensory, motor, and association areas, these areas are located in different brain lobes.Each hemisphere is specialized in different functions and all areas are responsible for fulfilling motor and sensory functions and also cognition.In these layers there are also glial cells, which have functions regarding the absorption and conduction of CSF, some form myelin, increase the action potential and also store glycogen.It works thanks to the formation of its body layers of neurons, each of which has specialized cells with different functions.In addition, this cortex has the characteristic that it has deep areas, called folds, in which more neurons are found.

Therefore, we can conclude that the hemispheres are exactly equal in function is the generalization that does not describe the cerebral cortex.
